The intervention involved the restructuring of an agricultural farmhouse located within the city walls of Ferrara, in the former location of the Gardens of the Delizia della Montagnola that date from the period of the Este dynasty.

The aim of this intervention, begun in 2009 and completed in 2012, was to preserve the existing building structure and ensure its functionality through a systematic set of works which, in compliance with the typological elements, addressed both the necessity of conservation and that of the transformation to a new agricultural and residential purpose.

The internal distribution system was revised, new windows were added, the unity of the main and secondary fronts was restored, the non-recoverable parts were replaced, the perimeter masonry was restored, and we eliminated the incongruous accessory volumes, replacing these with a new, smaller building  for the shelter of agricultural and material vehicles.

On the ground floor, all the functions and services are now concentrated within the building, while the circulation flows along the perimeter to visually accentuate, from the new windows, the relationship between the building and the countryside.

In order to maintain the unity of the architectural facade of the main north and south fronts despite the insertion of new windows, a wooden device was placed in between the pilasters, to systemize the window openings with the different sizes of wooden panels of the covering. In this way, we avoid any figurative competition among the different elements, as well as reinforce the architectural character of the pilasters, considered to be a unique and remarkable typological element of the building.
